| A1 | Documents required Seal certificate (Inkan-shomei) This is a document certifying ownership of the seal. After registering a hanko (seal) at a city, ward, a certificate is issued on request. How to register your hanko (seal) may differ slightly according to the office of your residence, so checking beforehand is recommended. When purchasing a new or used car, a seal certificate issued within three months is required. Power of Attorney (Ininjo) In order to purchase a new car, registration of your name as the new owner of the car is required. Power of Attorney is necessary when you ask your car dealer or others to perform the necessary procedures on your behalf. The Power of Attorney document needs to have an officially registered seal, and is normally prepared at the dealership. Garage Certificate (Shako-shomei) This has to be obtained from your local police office. Documentation and time requirements depend on the local police office, so checking beforehand is recommended. * Registration in Japan only |
